Rabbi Zalman Schachter-Shalomi is an internationally recognized loving teacher who draws from many disciplines and cultures. He has been at the forefront of ecumenical discussions, enjoying a close friendship with the Dalai Lama, Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu and many other leading sages of our time and is the founder of Jewish Renewal which lays out the foundations for 21st Century Judaism. He has been instrumental in inspiring the convergence of ecology, spirituality and religion and recently has put special emphasis on Spiritual Eldering, or “Sage-ing” as he calls it in his seminal book From Age-ing to Sage-ing.
 

Sarah Susanka is the leader of a movement that redefined the American home through her “Not So Big” philosophy and “build better, not bigger” approach. In May 2007, Random House published The Not So Big Life where Susanka moves beyond habitation of homes and into how we inhabit our lives.  She is a sought-after resource by industry groups and professional organizations such as the American Institute of Architects, and regularly shares her insights with members of the media such as “The Oprah Show”, “Charlie Rose”, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times.  Sarah Susanka is a registered architect, a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects, a Senior Fellow of the Design Futures Council, and author of seven books.
 

Second Journey's "sage-in-residence" John G. Sullivan will moderate. A much-loved philosophy teacher at Elon University in North Carolina, he was named Elon’s first Distinguished University Professor in 2002. In addition to his work at Elon, he is a long-time participant in the ongoing inquiries sponsored by the Tai Sophia Institute for the Healing Arts in Laurel, Md. In 1987, he co-founded the Institute’s SOPHIA project, a program for adult learners that applies the philosophy underlying Chinese medicine to everyday life. This program is conducted in partnership with the "Creating Aging Friendly Communities" initiative of Community Strengths and UC Berkeley's Center for the Advanced Study of Aging Services.
