Home Remedies for Acne

Acne is a skin condition that troubles most people in the world at some point in their lives. It starts when the follicles of hair are plugged or clogged with dead skin cells and oil as well. It is considered to be an inflammatory skin condition that results in pimples and dark spots, mostly on the face, neck, shoulders, back, and even the chest. Although it affects all people, acne is more dominant in teenagers. Its development is dependent on many factors such as genetics, stress, infections, diet, and change in hormones.

Acne is a skin condition that can be treated, and the troubling pimples or spots can easily be reduced. The following are some natural ways on how one can get rid of acne;

Tea-tree oil

This is an essential type of oil that is obtained by taking extracts from leaves of a tea tree known as Melaleuca alternifolia. The extracts from this tree have elements that enhance its bacteria-fighting abilities. It can also reduce the inflammation of the skin. The tea-tree oil is very effective in reducing acne when applied to the skin for a continuous period. It also reduces some effects on the skin caused by acne such as irritation, dryness as well as burning. Always dilute the oil before applying it to the skin.

Mask made of cinnamon and honey

Cinnamon and honey are the primary sources of antioxidants which, when applied to the skin, are very effective in getting rid of acne. The two also contain antibacterial properties, and as a result, they can reduce inflammation by fighting the bacteria. The mask is made by mixing cinnamon and honey to obtain a paste. This mask can then be applied on the face and left for some time.

Green tea

Green tea is also filled with antioxidants. It is known to enhance the health of individuals who drink it regularly. However, when it comes to acne, green tea should be applied directly to the skin to get rid of it. The tannins and flavonoids contained in green tea fight bacteria well and reduce inflammation, which results in acne. There are creams and lotions one can also use, which are made of green tea. A mixture can also be made by boiling green tea with water.

Aloe vera

This is one of the tropical plants that produce a gel which is clear from its leaves. This gel is then mixed with creams, lotions, soaps, and ointments as well. It is mainly used to treat most of the skin conditions such as rashes and burns. Applying aloe vera to the skin can help significantly in reducing inflammation, which is the leading cause of acne. The sulfur and salicylic acid contained in aloe vera are very useful in getting rid of acne.

Regular exfoliation

Exfoliation is a process whereby the top layer containing dead skin cells is removed by the use of a brush or scrub. An acid that dissolves the dead skin cells can also be used. This process gets rid of acne through the removal of skin cells, which tend to block the pores. It also makes the treatment of acne easier by allowing other medications to penetrate the skin deeper.

For severe cases of acne, one should visit a dermatologist for further consultation.
